WHITE ARROWS are as new and as fresh as any band out right now. Just starting to play live in the summer 2008, they played their first show July 11th. The birth of White Arrows started earlier that same school year with NYU students Evan K and Mickey Church. Mickey went to Evan's apartment one morning after a usual long night into the morning of intoxication as is normal for a young student in New York City, and the magic happened.
Messing around on a tiny Casio from the 1990s that was clearly out of tune, the first riff of the first track they ever recorded, "Coming or Going", was born. That week Evan and Mickey slept collectively no more than 20 hrs because of the feeling of urgency to not ruin the creative flow that excited them. Taking the tracks straight from apartment to the local bar on 10th street in between 3rd and 4th avenue to DJ the tracks to see how people would react to the songs, the two kept on writing until the EP was complete. However, White Arrows was not always called White Arrows, maybe some insight into the night before the emergence of the music-- the project was called Mr. E and the Bellyaches.
Impacted by Mickey's study of Shamanistic Ritual in and out of NYU, White Arrows essence was captured (at least in their heads). Soon thereafter, they started giving out the songs to their friends and word spread around the streets of New York. A little following of young street kids started being recognized in Downtown Manhattan, and now there are graffiti tags of White Arrows spanning from the West Village to the Lower Eastside, though it is not confirmed that they are related, it seems obvious. Since then NYLON magazine has featured their songs during their fashion week special, and various other video expos
